MISSION
Our mission is to enhance the global Down syndrome story by providing community, hope, and support to people impacted by Down syndrome. We work to achieve this through three programs: comfort baskets, community events, and collaborative advocacy.
VISION
We envision a world where Down syndrome is seen as an asset rather than a liability, a gift rather than a curse, and something to be celebrated rather than mourned. We envision a world where a Down syndrome diagnosis is met with an abundance of support by the surrounding community. We envision a world where people with Down syndrome are seen as valuable assets to those around them, and where an extra chromosome does not limit opportunities for a person. We will continue working hard until this vision becomes a reality!
ABOUT
THE MEANING BEHIND "BRUSHFIELD"
One of the common characteristics of Down syndrome are small white spots on the iris of the eye, which are called Brushfield spots. While not every person with Down syndrome has Brushfield spots, they have been found to be much more common in people with Down syndrome. These spots don't impact a person's vision, and they don't have much of a purpose besides looking beautiful! They are whimsical and enchanting, and we wanted to celebrate one of our favorite characteristics of Down syndrome by using Brushfield in our name.
